That is why we track the key greenhouse gas emissions from our hotel operations, use this data to develop specific climate action plans and provide clear, transparent updates on our progress.
Our aim is to reduce the Basic Hotel Innsbruck’s carbon footprint in the long term and to demonstrate transparently to guests and partners the steps we are taking to achieve this.
In the 2024/25 financial year, we calculated the corporate carbon footprint (CCF) of our hotel operations for the first time.
The calculation was carried out in accordance with the internationally recognised principles of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and takes into account Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions.
Scope 1: Direct emissions from hotel operations, for example from energy and fuel consumption.
Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased energy.
Scope 3: Other indirect emissions along the supply chain, such as those resulting from purchased products, services, laundry or waste.

The carbon footprint forms the basis for identifying relevant sources of emissions and implementing measures in areas where we, as a hotel business, can have a real impact.
We aim to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from our hotel operations in the long term.
This is based on our carbon footprint assessment and a climate action plan developed from it. In this plan, we set out specific areas for action, responsibilities and next steps.
We focus primarily on those areas where we can directly influence energy and resource consumption or achieve improvements in collaboration with suppliers and partners.
The Climate Action Plan translates the findings of our carbon footprint assessment into concrete measures. Its implementation is regularly reviewed and further developed in the light of new findings. The key areas of action include:
We are constantly reviewing ways to reduce energy consumption in the hotel and operate technical systems more efficiently. These include, amongst other things:
- Optimising energy consumption
- more efficient operation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning
- Conscious use of lighting and technical equipment
- Assessing suitable energy products when selecting future suppliers
Cleaning and linen usage have a direct impact on the consumption of water, energy and cleaning products. Our measures include:
- Room cleaning on request for stays of several days
- Reducing unnecessary changes of linen
- Conscious use of detergents and cleaning products
- Ongoing optimisation of cleaning procedures
When it comes to procurement and waste prevention, too, we focus on simple, straightforward improvements. These include:
- purchasing in line with actual needs
- reducing the use of single-use materials
- better waste separation and prevention
- Taking into account regional and resource-efficient options, where appropriate and available
Our guests’ journeys to and from the hotel are not included in the corporate carbon footprint currently being calculated. However, they have a significant impact on the overall carbon footprint of a trip.
Thanks to the Basic Hotel Innsbruck’s central location, many journeys can be made on foot or by public transport. We therefore advise our guests on:

We view climate action as an ongoing process.
We regularly review which measures have already been implemented and what impact they are having. At set intervals, we update our carbon footprint and use this as a basis for further developing our Climate Action Plan.
This enables us to document our progress in a transparent manner, set new priorities and adapt our measures to changing circumstances.
